Why it is painted this way
A loose dark robe forms the center of gravity; head and feet lightly tether the body with fine lines. Its tilt creates a step on still paper.
The light you just noticed
Bare paper becomes both air and light around the figure. Ink moisture and density replace conventional shading.
What color is doing
Only ink is used, ranging from dense black to pale gray. The splashed method looks unrestrained without being uncontrolled.
Where it comes from
Liang Kai served at the imperial painting academy and became known for abbreviated figure painting, turning deep training into apparent spontaneity.
